Thar Movie Review:

Try to guess the mood of this film from this scene. The village from which people are disappearing. There is an atmosphere of fear. The inspector there is happy. Because after a long time, he has got a chance to do some serious police work outside the security of the leaders. He’s having fun with it. ‘Thar‘ starts creating a thriller atmosphere from its first scene. Every scene tries to add something to that claustrophobic atmosphere. You feel that something is happening. And you have to know what is happening. The first half of ‘Thar‘ is tight. The problem starts beyond this.

When the film opens after so many build-ups, it’s a disappointment. Because so much of the crowd was tied in a thin string. Why all this is happening, you would have predicted this before the film was told. But you would think that only such a thing would be a little. Something else will happen in this story. But this doesn’t happen. The film tries to weave a tight thriller around a basic storyline. Every department of the film puts its emphasis on it. But all those things will come in handy when you have something to say, that no one has said before. That thing is missing from ‘Thar‘.

Thar‘ is a violent film. But it is not limited to just mental violence. Literal bloodshed is happening before your eyes. That is a very gruesome way. But it never seems that the film is overdoing. Apart from violence, the film touches upon issues like the cast system, drugs, and loneliness. The good thing is that all these things are intertwined in the story. Doesn’t seem to be paired separately.

Technical Aspects:

The technical department of the film puts in a lot of effort to bring the vision of director Raj Singh Choudhary to the screen. The cinematography of the film plays the biggest role in it. When the movie starts, you are shown a bird’s eye view of the area. Shreya Dubey’s camerawork makes you feel a sense of emptiness in that place. You get to see the same thing in the characters who live there. There are many occasions in the film, where the camera stays on the eyes of the characters. There is despair in some eyes, regret in some, longing in some. The song that comes at the beginning of the film can also be heard separately from the film. There are many important scenes in the film where there is no background score. And there you will not find it lacking.

Acting:

Anil Kapoor played the role of Surekha Singh in the film. Along with this, Anil is also the producer of this film. But you still see the hunger in that man to do something different and better. He impresses you in every frame. Surprise. His subordinate Bhura’s role is played by Satish Kaushik. Satish and Anil have worked together in the past as well. You get to see that chemistry of theirs in this film as well.

Harshvardhan Kapoor has played the role of an unnamed mysterious person who is a newcomer to the village. Harshvardhan appears with a blank expression on most of the occasions in the film. This is the sort of demand for his character. Whatever work Harshvardhan Kapoor has done in his career, it is not regular cinema. That’s something different. The choice of work tells a lot about the actors. Fatima Sana has played the role of Shaikh’s wife. He has a character arc, which works in a positive way for the film. But the strongest performance of this film is of Jeetendra Joshi. All the acting on one side and the Rajasthani tone of that man on one side.

Verdict:

Thar‘ seems to be a first of its kind, where everything is on point. Except for the main storyline. Despite all this, the film had a chance to do something good, different, and new. But telling the public everything aloud, that is, in the affair of spoonfeeding, that thing also keeps ongoing. There are some parts in the film, which are told with the help of flashbacks. The film would have been a bit stronger without that flashback.

Thar Movie Rating:

  • 3 / 5 (⭐⭐⭐)
